Chicken Parts

(Project completed: 1997)

This game was hacked up on a lark to see how fast I could slap together a simple game. I also wanted to see if it was possible to produce a true game for which the graphics took longer to create than the code. Apparently it is not possible.

Chicken Parts is a DOS/VGA game based on Activision's "Freeway" for the Atari 2600 video game system. It's a very simple two-player game that involves seeing who can get the most chickens across the road within a time limit. You can play single-player by jamming down the player 2 "up" key - that way you'll see how you fare against random chance.

It took me 2.5 hours to draw the graphics and 6 hours to write and test the program. I'm not supporting this thing and will probably never touch it again, so I've included the source code in the ZIP. You fellow game coders can have a laugh and pine for the good old days when coding was simple.

Download the executable and source code. It was made for MS-DOS so you'll probably need an emulator or virtual machine to run it.
