{"id":1397,"date":"2011-09-07T20:26:52","date_gmt":"2011-09-08T03:26:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nerdhive.org\/glob\/?p=1397"},"modified":"2012-05-25T21:29:38","modified_gmt":"2012-05-26T04:29:38","slug":"to-montreal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.soleillapierre.ca\/blog\/?p=1397","title":{"rendered":"to Montreal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>2011\/09\/04<\/p>\n<p>Continued on from Belleville to Montreal today, with a couple of stops along the way.<\/p>\n<p>First stop, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.1000islandsskydeck.com\/home.php\">SkyDeck<\/a> observation tower on Hill Island, in the midst of the Thousand Islands.\u00a0 The Thousand Islands really strike my fancy because you get what looks like a nice upscale suburban neighborhood, only with a river instead of roads, and instead of freight trains you get cargo ships passing by your back yard.\u00a0 Nice neighborhood if you can afford it:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.soleillapierre.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/d20110904_0017.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"padding-left: 0px;padding-right: 0px;padding-top: 0px;border-width: 0px\" src=\"http:\/\/www.soleillapierre.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/d20110904_0017_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"d20110904_0017\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.soleillapierre.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/d20110904_0039.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"padding-left: 0px;padding-right: 0px;padding-top: 0px;border-width: 0px\" src=\"http:\/\/www.soleillapierre.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/d20110904_0039_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"d20110904_0039\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next stop, <a href=\"http:\/\/uppercanadavillage.com\/\">Upper Canada Village<\/a>.\u00a0 My parents tell me I was here once before, but I don&#8217;t remember it.\u00a0 We were on a trip to evaluate a nearby hippy commune (I vaguely remember that part) and also did a boat tour of the Thousand Islands, which I also don&#8217;t remember.<\/p>\n<p>I spent two hours at the Village but could have spent more.\u00a0 It&#8217;s the biggest heritage village I&#8217;ve seen in Canada so far. Lots to see. I enjoyed it a bunch.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve rarely seen so much quaint packed into such a localized area.\u00a0 But one thing about these heritage villages that most other people can&#8217;t say: I can honestly say I&#8217;ve lived in a place that makes these farmhouses look modern and luxurious.<\/p>\n<p>Assorted Village pics follow.<\/p>\n<p><a
